Start Something

I always wanted to start something that can help tonnes of people and monetize from that, In fact, that was the original reason behind why I became an Entrepreneur, fast forward ten years, I have helped dozens of people through my consulting and my services. I am starting out again today to build a new habit of writing 500 words a day. Why did I want to write 500 words a day? You can read it here. I have learned Action always creates opportunities. I wanted you to join my journey and start something, and it can be anything like getting up early, hitting the gym, reading a book a week or anything. Let’s start, before that let me address few burning questions that were pulling my legs so often.

Self-doubt

Let’s define what Self-doubt is – Self-doubt is the feeling of uncertainty about your ability to accomplish something. It can lead to hesitation and indecision.
A part of me asks me a lot of questions that goes like this
a. It’s completely useless idea and doesn’t worth pursuing!
b. You had already failed twice last year, and you have nothing in concrete to do anything now, so stop

It happens every day to me, and I am sure you might have part of you pulling down on the various thing.
I overcome this beast by adapting simple process
1. Stop making excuses
For the matter of fact when I discussed with Nick about my challenges he gave me couple answers and then he said I am just giving excuses not to do something I really wanted to do, after a moment of gasp, I acknowledged that I am giving excuses. So stop making excuses be it anything just keep doing things, and it would create opportunities and you would be one step closer to your goals.
2. Don’t talk about your plans Please go through this TED presentation by Derek Sivers, I have sensed it dozen times that talking about your plan to other people and the response we get through gives us the sense of achieving our goal to our brains. I have started to keep my plans to myself and a select group of people.

Yes, once you start to gain momentum towards your goal by just doing simple things every day and getting one step closer your Self-Doubt fades away.

Framework to start on something to create opportunities

1. Commit it for minimum six months & Do it every day

Reason behind start something is to create opportunities for yourself, I wanted to give a fair attention to it and wanted to commit myself doing it for next six months and do it consistently. So the schedule is as following:
a. Complete writing 500 words every day before 3 pm – I usually have to work with my consulting clients in the afternoon throughout the evening to make sure I help them with their problems. So choose your timing on when you would be able to allocate time for it and then do it every day. Being consistent is the key.
b. Set a reminder on your phone every day at 1 pm to make sure you are on track and if not put everything aside and get it done.

I would keep you posted how it goes in a month.

2. Get an accountablity partner

Open up on your plan of starting something to your close friends, don’t pitch to everyone just share it with someone whom you think would help you being accountable. It can be your partner, your mastermind group, your friend, your mentor or your mom. Follow these actionable items and share it with your accountability partner:
a. Once you complete your commitment for that day, SMS him/her immediately stating that you have completed it. It can be emailed as well, which ever works for you Or even a simple comment to this blog post, I would keep you accountable 🙂
b. Ask your partner to check back with you on 4 pm if he hasn’t got an update, it can again be an SMS / email or comment to this blog post.

Simply letting them be accountable for your actions would help you make progress towards your goal.

I can understand the confusion, I have already mentioned not to talk about your plans and yet asking you to choose an accountability partner, Yes, sharing it with the people who would help you reach there doesn’t hurt or trick your brain because he would keep asking you about this every day. So go and choose your partner.

So now, it’s your turn, Share it with me what you wanted to start and do that every day.

Cheers to our great future 🙂
